CHARACTER (CANON)
CHARACTER NAME: Handsome Jack
CANON: Borderlands

CANON SPECIES: Human
CANON AGE: 40s

APPEARANCE: Here. Approximately 5’10”/178cm, Slicked back brown hair with a grey streak, heterochromatic eyes – left green, right blue, a permanent smarmy smirk, dad bod, grey banded tattoo around right wrist with interlocking gear pattern. He has a mask fastened to his face with clips at the temples and chin that shifts in sync with his facial movements. Underneath the mask is a large, upside down u-shaped scar across his face and maiming his left eye.

CANON BACKGROUND: Wiki.

PERSONALITY: Look, Handsome Jack is a lot of things, but no one can deny how charismatic the fucker is. Let’s be explicitly clear here, no one likes this man, but everyone loves to hate him. No matter how despicable the things he says are, people find themselves drawn to the animal magnetism he has. Sure, he's shot a baby once – just once to be clear – and he maybe scooped out a dude's eyeballs in front of the dude's kids with a spoon, but disgusted or not you're still going to listen to the end of the story.

His presence commands attention, just by the way he stands and the way he smiles. It's bound to give you a sleazy feeling, but the man couldn't make his way up in a corporation like Hyperion without a sense of humor. Perhaps then it's not shocking to hear that Jack is not a particularly stable human being. In fact, he does not have all that great a grip of any narrative outside of his own. Remember the spoon and baby from before? Jack does too, but he still sees himself as a hero even in that story. Though he may not be as politically crafty as a lot of businessmen are, his almost absurd personality makes up for it. He is arrogant in the way that leads with a joke and a wink. A joke that makes you laugh until you really think about what was implied. He has a good sense of humor and though it can be deprecating, he uses it to his advantage. It works to drop people’s guards and make them comfortable around him. He has the energy and the drive to convince people he’s doing the right thing because he full-heartedly believes he is.

Even when confronted with this sort of behavior throughout the games by the vault hunters at large, he dismisses their concerns about morality and pushes forward with plans only he is gung-ho about. Jack also wants to colonize a crime-infested planet to make it a paradise and he does genuinely mean well with this. He would provide homes at no cost to people, make thousands of jobs in the process, and boost his own company in the process. However at the same time, he believes that the end justifies the means the entire way. Dialogue has him explaining how he will cold-bloodedly murder those who live on the planet to make way for a new era and does so quite frequently.

There is no question in Jack’s eyes that he holds a moral high ground in every choice he makes as the hero of the story. You either are for him or you are against him. This may come from the fact that he's the top dog in an extremely wealthy company. When things don’t go his way, he can usually sack or kill the guy who messed it up and does! It’s spoiled, vindictive, and childlike, but it is his way of solving a problem. That speaks to his arrogance and his one track mind. He doesn’t mind stepping on people to get the job done, but the job will get done. He guarantees it and it’s part of what makes him such an effective businessman. Jack is always looking for the cheapest, smartest, best way to work and he will find it.

POWERS & ABILITIES: On his own, Jack isn't all that special. He knows his way around a gun, he's got more money than god, and a background in coding for a corrupt arms corporation. However, he has Hyperion digistruct modules attached to his clothes and wristwatch that allow him the following:

¤ Cloaking Module: The module allows Jack to temporarily cloak himself for a few minutes, allowing him to get clear of hazards undetected.
¤ Cloning Module: The module creates temporary, digital construct AI clones of Jack that are capable of fighting or doing small tasks. They expire after their task is completed.
¤ Shield Module: The module forms a magnetic shield around a person to minimize damage from physical harm.
¤ x2 Wrist Launchers: These look like a low profile chrome bracelet and a watch, but are actually capable of launching repeated energy blasts and maintaining incendiary beams for a few seconds at a time.

Because its all technology related I doubt any could be relevant in game.

CHARACTER (AU)
CHARACTER NAME: John “Jack” A. Price

SPECIES: Human
AGE: 42

APPEARANCE: Same as above, but missing the mask and the scar entirely.
MODS: none

BACKGROUND: Jack was born John Anthony Price to a sweet, young professional family in the capital city of Lagoberra. Though his infancy and toddler years were a breeze, Jack quickly showed signs of incredibly low empathy and cruel behavior as he reached his school years. His mother tried her best, but eventually overwhelmed and at the end of her rope, she packed the young boy up on the guise of a family vacation and left him with his grandmother.

Grandma Price lived on the outskirts of the viable areas in an old recovery zone, and though the recovery attempts had long since been abandoned, the town of Eris’ Blight held a small but robust population. The land alone was tough with its traces of poisoned water and earth, so the people had to be tougher. Law enforcement avoided the area for their own safety, allowing gangs, drugs, and antisocial behavior to thrive. Grandma Price herself resembled the rough nature of the area, and though Jack’s parents had hoped she would be able to turn him around, she did little more than abuse the child.

What Grandma Price did teach Jack, however, was how to sharpen his cruelty to a point. You had to know which targets would take it, when you could bare your teeth and when to keep your head down, who in the room called the shots, and who you could give to the wolves. Despite truly despising the woman, Jack took her lessons in stride as he became a young man, keeping his eyes on the prize, corporate Lagoberra. His intelligence made programming come easily to him and he specialized in creating security measures to protect confidential data.

He left Eris’ Blight to rejoin civilized society, getting an entry level coding position at Titanus, a company openly providing body modifications, AI systems, and weapons to the United Administration Defense departments. Jack quickly discovered the UA wasn’t the only place the company was providing support however – many of Titanus’s products ended up in civilian hands in the non-viable areas. He used this knowledge as leverage, and between that and his successful programs, Jack quickly rose up through the company. During this time he became involved with a lovely woman and the two of them started a family. Together, they had a daughter named Angel, and for a time, all was well but eventually Jack’s mask slipped. His anger issues and cruelty became too much for his wife and one night, she left with Angel.

Jack threw himself into his work after that. He was damn good at it, and even better at playing the corporate games. The higher up the food chain he got, the more people understood the way he thought, and the more comfortable he felt. Sure, he’d had to figuratively cut some throats to get the things he needed here and there, stabbed a few backs, maybe kickstarted a corporate rivalry or two, but he knew what he was doing. Eventually, Jack found himself as one of the administrative assistants to the CEO of Titanus, and though the CEO was an asshole, he knew opportunity when he saw it. New planets would need new products, alien technology was ripe for the picking, and a monopoly on a new frontier was a gift from the gods themselves. The CEO needed someone he could trust to keep the company’s interests in mind despite never returning to the home branch, and Jack was just disposable enough for the role. He was tasked with the goal of collecting data on his five year shift(s) and sending the information back. Tellan consumers always deserve the best and newest after all.

CREW DIVISION: Operations, Engineering
DIVISION APTITUDE: Jack’s last job was an administrative position directly underneath the CEO and though he has a code monkey background with programming, he’d rather have the cushier job of telling people what to do, ty (':
SUBDIVISION: Administrative Crew, Computer Systems Engineer

Hey! How’s it – ah, these pretzels suck… So, how’s your day been, buddy? We haven’t really talked much since I, heh, left you for dead. Hey, you think you’ll freeze to death out there? Nah, probably not. The bandits’ll get you first. My day? It’s been pretty good. Just bought a pony made of diamonds, because I’m rich. So, you know. That’s cool. ‘Kay, bye!
